Parent Philanthropy Ambassadors

Breadcrumb

Make an impact in the lives of Highlander students and families by becoming a Parent Philanthropy Ambassador. This program was established to create opportunities for parents to stay connected through philanthropic leadership and volunteerism. Parents of current and former UCR students are welcome to join.

The Parent Philanthropy Ambassadors’ mission is to further develop the sense of community, service, and parent support that the UCR Parents Association has built since its inception over 30 years ago.

What is the role of an ambassador?

Engage in personal outreach, host and attend regional events, welcome new families into the community, and make example-setting philanthropic gifts. Ambassadors network with fellow parents to create a philanthropic culture that supports the success of UCR students.

Ambassadors are encouraged to participate by communicating with parents one-on-one (in person or via phone/email/Zoom) or in a speaking role at an in-person* or virtual parent event. Each term spans the beginning of fall instruction through the close of the academic year in the spring.

*In light of environmental health and safety guidelines, many events may be held virtually through Zoom or a similar online platform.

Specific activities include:

  • Participation in at least 2 of 3 quarterly Parent Philanthropy Ambassador conference calls
  • Participation in 1 of the following:
    • Make 5-20 welcome and thank you calls to families in your region
    • Co-host a welcome event in your region
    • Co-host an event highlighting faculty research or individual college developments
    • Participate in a parent meeting as a volunteer or speaker
    • Attend or volunteer at an Alumni Engagement event in your region
    • Share your family’s story through a parent spotlight on digital platforms and/or in print (parents.ucr.edu/Facebook/parent newsletter)
    • Share your family’s story and highlight the importance of philanthropy in collaboration with University Advancement (e.g. Annual Giving appeals)
    • Volunteer at any parent event (e.g. Parent & Family Day, Summer Orientation)
  • Make a gift or pledge to any University fund before the end of the term
